Get Inspired to FIDDLE!

[I'm writing this from the Kat Cave while I work on a huge project. If you have photos of your cat in a cave, I'd love to post them to my blog with your permission =) Please send them to kat at soundhealthmusic dot com. Thanks!]

Today’s post is dedicated to my dad, after Father’s Day. He told me once that he always wanted to be a rock-n-roll drummer. He would’ve been a perfect fit for Buddy Holly’s band I think.

In the video is my friend, neighbor, and fellow music therapist Cami Smith. She’s got great fiddle chops. Click play to get inspired . . .

Cami’s band is hitting TONS of cities in August. Please click here to check out their tour schedule, and go check them out LIVE if they are hitting your city.

Little known fact: I played the double bass in orchestra for 3 years in college. It was SO fun to play in the orchestra! I have great memories of being on stage, holding on to that gigantic stringed instrument. We played Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Mozart, and more.

Have you ever played in a band or ensemble before? Do you now?

Yes, I do belong to a group in Spokane, WA. I play fiddle, accordion, and piano primarily in a celtic group called, Crooked Kilt. We do originals, and traditional tunes in arrangements or instrumentation that keeps them fresh and new, hence, the description, “crooked”! We play for local events, such as the Highland Games, and contra dances. One of our most exciting gigs was traveling to the Oysterridge Music Festival in Wyoming.

I’m a trumpet player! My first love. Played “Blessed Assurance” in church this Sunday and I play in the Berlin Community Band.

Just went to the Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival this weekend and I reminded myself how much I love the fiddle. It is the sound of Joy. Thanks for sharing!

I sing lead in a classic rock band; we mostly play on Cleveland’s west side. And play a mean tambourine! It is a joy to play out and delight an audience.

Great fiddlin’! I too have enjoyed singing/playing in various ensembles since elementary school. I currently perform in an eclectic acoustic duo, Local Honey, and enjoy sitting in with a number of local bands (usually adding flute to their mix). There is something magical about being in a group music making process!
