I’ve recently been working on socialization, providing an outlet for creative expression, decreasing isolation, providing a basis for reminiscence, improving communication, managing stress, and promoting wellness in my older adult clients. I provide music therapy to independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, Alzheimer’s/dementia, and everything in between. Here’s a rainstorm video. Watch at your own risk, and don’t be surprised when the gray clouds come rolling in

In the video, I mention ShakerMan.com. I love that guy! He has a really interesting selection of instruments. All drum circle facilitators get 20% off ShakerMan.com!
For the past two weeks, these instruments have been in my car:

This is a favorite intervention of mine, especially when a group could use a change of pace from the usual bunch of instruments I bring around. Also, goodness knows Midwesterners like to talk about the weather! I sometimes like to add to the mix a metallophone or marimba with a pentatonic scale, or I’ll improvise something rain-like on the oboe.
Nice, Rachelle. I knew you would chime in with some more creativity! Oboe~ Teach me!
Cool video, Kat! Thanks for mentioning my name and website. To make it easy for your friends and clients, I’ve put together a special package with frogs, rainsticks, thunder tubes and a simple woodblock. Let me know if you want the ‘official” Product ID number and pricing for it…
Rainstorms are FUN! Have you tried a “Frog-Pond” for giving each in a group a chance to sound out individually and as a group?
OH! I no longer have those triple blocks from Vietnam, but I do have a fun triple block set from Pakistan that is cool with ridges on the tubes for added fun!! I’ll send you a picture…
One, two, lets all PLAY!
